Sacred Traditions And Rituals a call to connection

Since 1997, Sacred Traditions And Rituals has been gathering as an inclusive worshipping community. As a ministry of community, S.T.A.R. reaches out by calling to connection all who seek the Holy and the Sacred through the wisdom of other faith traditions while celebrating their own faith and spirituality.
Led by an ordained member of the clergy, members are encouraged to participate in the leadership of rituals influenced by Creation Spirituality — including music, art, dance, drama, prayerful contemplation, poetry, and prose.
As a caring and compassionate community, S.T.A.R. participates in service and mission efforts and addresses environmental concerns — in the local and broader community. A large share of each month’s offering is designated for outreach, particularly the Sack-Gift-Collection, items given for special community projects.
Hosted by Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Sacred Traditions And Rituals welcomes everyone, regardless of faith background, spiritual preference, or involvement in another denomination.

Tranquility With Tea Service
a service devoted to quieting minds, opening hearts, soothing souls
Reflection:
We Only See What We Look At . . .
Introverts and Extroverts
Psychologist Carl Jung originated the terms “introvert” and “extrovert,” which have come to mean little more than wallflower and life-of-the-party in our daily parlance. Jung, however, meant much more with the terms. An introvert is a person who naturally looks inward for meaning and is most comfortable in a shifting world of abstractions, patterns, feelings, and ideas. An extrovert is a person who naturally looks outward at a material world that can be weighed and measured, that is present, substantial, and unchanging. To the introvert, the outer world is a projection of the inner world; to the extrovert, the inner world simply reflects what is out there.
All of us fall somewhere on a continuum between complete introversion and complete extraversion, and our views about the world and the Spirit vary accordingly. Jung’s theory, then, provides us with a credible explanation of why we are drawn to different belief systems and rituals. Because we look at things differently, we see different truths and have different preferences.
Ultimately, this theory is a key to greater religious understanding and tolerance and so is worth serious consideration.
Our Prayerful Meditation and Contemplation will be created and shared by Andy Crosland and David Heatherly. Andy is a retired Professor of English at USC-Upstate and a graduate of the Hayden Institute of Spiritual Formation. David is retired from practice as a Family Therapist. Both serve on S.T.A.R. Councils – David is the Chair of Councils and Andy is Treasurer and Newsletter Editor.
A portion of the offering collected has been designated for Piedmont Care of Spartanburg – honoring Andy and David for sharing their creative energy as part of the service.
