during the Sunday service. Described by Bach scholar W. Gillies Whittaker as one of the most perfect of cantatas, Cantata #106 was probably written for a funeral. However, its appropriateness for Lent, and even for Holy Week, is unmistakable. The cantata text exhorts the listener to, "Set in order thine house for thou shalt die. Yea, come, Lord Jesus." And quoting from the passion narrative, "Into thine hands my spirit I commend. Thou shalt be with me today in paradise."
