Special Events

The Reverend Scott Alexander Stevenson was appointed Central's minister on June 29, 2011.

Alex served Grace United Methodist Church in the Columbia District for eleven years.  Previous appointments include Sharon and Shiloh United Methodist Churches in Abbeville and Latimer Memorial UMC in Belton.

Reverend Stevenson is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he majored in religion and psychology.  He completed his seminary education at the Duke Divinity School where he earned the Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees. 

A native of Summerville, Alex is married to the former Melissa Gillespie.  They have two daughters, Mary Joy and Kaitlyn Renee.  Mary Joy is a student at Winthrop and Kaitlyn will enter  USC in the fall.  Melissa holds a master's degree in Library Science from USC.

In addition to his enjoyment of worship and preaching, the Reverend Stevenson sings tenor, plays the flute, and plans to participate in Central's Chancel Choir.

For twenty-one years, Alex facilitated many fine accomplishments in the churches he served, and Central welcomes him and his family.
